Anthony Benton Gude attended the School of the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, Massachusetts in 1986-87, mastering the Venetian Technique of oil painting. Studying under Professor John Burns in his Technical Painting Class, he learned the tools of his trade based on methods used by the Italian Masters. He uses these methods to this day not only on his easel paintings but in the construction of murals as well.
He continued his education studying at the Art Student’s League in New York City, New York, focusing on drawing and painting. As his grandfather, Thomas Hart Benton, would say: “painting is all in the drawing”. Whether you are holding a paint brush or a pencil, the same skill apply to all the mediums used in art.
Anthony B. Gude's paintings depict both the history and beauty of scenery. Working for many years in Kansas and Missouri painting large murals and landscapes in that region, he has returned to Martha's Vineyard to apply his imaginative painting skills to the local landscape.
